Re: Transfer Portal

It has been mentioned that Dennis Robin and Caleb Dowling are going to return next year. I am not so sure about that. I am almost 100% sure that both of these guys participated in Senior night this past season. I know Robin is supposed to have one more year of eligibility left but I have heard that ...

Re: Transfer Portal

Can't argue with much of that rundown. The two big question marks will definitely be Taylor and Kehler. I think Kehler will adjust a little faster and have a little more success earlier on. It is going to take a little time for Taylor to find consistency. I also think this year could be Conley's bre...

Re: Transfer Portal

Don't overlook Shawn Taylor at 165. He certainly won't be able to fill Peyton's shoes but he should be a solid replacement. He had a pretty good redshirt year with a record of 14-5. He didn't have any wins over ranked guys, but he beat everyone he should have beat. I would assume at HWT they will sl...

Re: Transfer Portal

Good news for the Mountaineers, Willie McDougal announced on social media that he was committing to WVU. That gives them two very respectable transfers for next years lineup.

Re: National Duals Tournament in the fall.

With Penn State not accepting the invitation to participate in this event, the remaining 5 spots will be randomly drawn on Thursday, April 24th. In this event teams will earn money depending on their placement with a minimum of $20K just to participate. That is a large chunk of change for any mid-le...

Re: Transfer Portal

Peyton Keller is going to be a great addition for any team. I hate to see him leave Ohio University; those smaller programs need guys like Peyton for recognition and to grow and get better. Willie McDougald would make a great addition to the Mountaineer program. He has one year left and would make a...

Re: NIL Impact

I'm not sure about putting a cap on the NIL will work, there are always people out there to find loopholes. However, I am a big fan of transparency. I would like to see all donors be made public by the programs and each athlete that is on an NIL deal should make public what that deal is. I don't kno...

Re: NIL Impact

No, the Universities themselves will not step up and try to match some of the other programs with unlimited NIL money. That is the reason for the huge gap between the top programs and the teams on the outside looking in. I do think that the wrestling programs are doing all they can do to try and kee...

Re: Iowa /tampering

Let's not overreact to what was said. I don't think anyone believes Pat McAfee, or anyone else, is going to donate $500k to the wrestling program or to any one individual. I believe what was being inferred was that NJWVU12 knew Pat McAfee well enough to have a conversation with him and get him on bo...

Re: Iowa /tampering

NIL is getting out of control. It is another case of the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Good on Kyle and the coaching staff for reporting such an aggreges violation. If the NCAA gets enough of these complaints, they will have to eventually investigate for violations. WVU is one of those pr...

Re: Transfer Portal

At 125, Spencer Moore from UNC is off the board. He has already transferred to the same college his wife is wrestling for. I agree, the middle of the lineup at 149 or 157 could use some tightening up. The last couple of years they have recruited pretty hard so a graduate transfer might be a good ide...

There are over 150 names in the transfer portal, and there are some heavy hitters looking for new homes. Who are some guys from the portal that everyone wants to see show up in Morgantown. There are a lot of names that would surely improve every team's lineup but there are some spots in WVU's lineup...

Re: Transfer Portal

I think the move to 133 would be good for Jett. You can tell that weight cut takes a toll on him and has a significant impact on his conditioning. As far as Ty bumping up to 157, I personally think he would need to add some size. He had very limited action this year but based on last year he was too...

The regular season is over, the Transfer Portal is open, and so far there are some big names looking for a new home next year. What are some thoughts on the holes WVU should be looking to fill. I would like to see the addition of a really solid guy to slot into the 157 or 165 spot. This would give T...

Congratulation to Peyton Hall, way to finish your wrestling career with a terrific third place finish at the NCAA tournament.

Jett had a good showing with a Round of 12 finish. With any luck he can improve on that next year.

Re: March 'Matness' Bracket Competition

Thank you Coach Asbury for putting this together, it has truly added even more fun (and heartbreak) to me and my wife's time in watching the tournament this year. Everyone should sign up for this next year, it is easy to do and it really is a lot of fun. I was wondering if it is too late to change m...

Re: NCAA Tournament

Brackets are out and the seeding committee definitely does not have any love for Jordan Titus and Ian Bush. Jordan draws the 2 seed, Buea Bartlett, first round and Ian Bush draws the 3 seed, AJ Farrari. Dennis Robin got the absolute very best draw he could have gotten with the 5 seed, Bennett Berge....

Re: NCAA Tournament

I went back and listened to the FRL 1110 episode and at the 1hr and 6min mark, they definitely confirmed that Josh was being granted another year of eligibility. I do agree with Jersey in that the further removed from high school an athlete gets the success level does tend to fall off. However, his ...

NCAA Tournament

The At-Large bids just came out and the Mountaineers add one more qualifier to the tournament. Dennis Robin got one of the wildcard spots after a disappointing Big 12 tournament. This gives them a total of 5 qualifiers to send to Philadelphia in two weeks. Unfortunately, Brody Conley ended up having...

Re: BIG 12's

That's very good insight on Brody Conley and his chances of getting an at-large bid. I hate to see him end the season like this because his knee injury looked like it was due to dirty wrestling and just not a freak accident. In the end the team had two champions for the first time and a total of six...

I understand your disappointment, but I have a mixed reaction to yesterday's results of the BIG 12 tournament. To me the only disappointments was Conley and Robin. Re: BIG 12's

It may seem like the rankings matter, and maybe they do to an extent, but to say that is the rankings are the only factor or even the biggest determining factor is not a true statement. Strength of schedule, and RPI, play a big part as well.

Re: BIG 12's

Each conference has a different number of allocations for every weight class. The BIG 10 has the most allocations with a total number of 87, the BIG 12 has the second most with 61, and the SoCon has the fewest with 13. Each weight class is looked at and evaluated individually to see how competitive ...

BIG 12's

The allocations are out for the BIG 12 conference tournament. Let's get some thoughts on the regular season and the upcoming post season. 125: Jett has had a good year and with 7 qualifying spots he should be safely in for the NCAA tournament. 133: Tommy Maddox will probably need a little help to qu...

A lot of good points being made. I don't necessarily agree with the argument about the assistant coaches. I think Cliff and Mitchell do a fine job and Mitchell is good for recruiting. Hopefully Jett can stay laser focused on his weight and conditioning after figuring out that he belongs at 125. Jord...

Ian Bush is a very competent replacement for Austin Cooley. Even though he is better at 184 he can still compete very good at 197. Rune has had some good wins over some ranked guys but has also had some loses against ranked guys, so keeping him in red-shirt this year is the right call. It will be ni...

Totally agree, these are not the results anyone was hoping for. Jett is up a weight to help with the weight cut and is still showing signs of inconsistency. There was no reason for Jordan Titus to lose the match against Cael Happel. He was up 6-2 going into the 3rd period and gave up 3 takedowns. Br...

Re: "Wrestle Ins"

I kind of like the idea of adding each regions 5th place wrestler to the state tournament. Not for the fact of benefiting one region over another but to award the athletes for the months of hard work. Add a Pigtail round on Thursday evening and let them face a fourth-place winner from another region...
